Steven Hart: Art and Design Lecturer

"This is my 14th year at the College, I originally graduated with an HND in Advertising and Design but I then wanted to start teaching, so I went back to study and got a Post Graduate Diploma in Art and Design, Architecture and Education."

"I love teaching at the College, the course attracts a wide range of people that all end up working in different disciplines of Art and Design. I still like keeping in touch with my ex-students, many have successfully gone on to work with top design companies, went onto prestigious design schools, or moved into fashion or interior design."



Barbara MacKenzie: HND Beauty Therapy

Barbara has a young family and worked for several years before deciding that the time was right to return to education.

" I knew that I wanted to retrain, but I took my time deciding which subject I wanted to study. Beauty Therapy is perfect for me because one day I would love to be self employed and with Beauty I can have that flexibility. The course is brilliant my confidence has grown. I love what I am doing now."


Lynn Chalmers: Care Lecturer

"I have been in the College for 1 year, but prior to this I was a Social Worker for Children and Families always wanted to teach and be involved in Social Work, so this really is my dream job and I am very happy as I am able to link theories with practice and share my professional experiences with my students. "

"Students get a lot out of this subject as they get the opportunity to do a practice placement working in the local community which helps their citizenship and employability. They learn about values, equal opportunities and the various needs that different people have. Its very positive and rewarding profession."


Scott MacKay: NQ Computing and Multimedia

"I came to the College straight from High School and chose this course because I had some experience with computers, and the subjects are really varied which gives a lot of opportunity for when I finish."

Scott intends to continue his education at Cumbernauld by going onto study for the HNC Computing.


Stuart McGinlay: HND Music Technology

Stuart is in his 3rd year at the College having progressed from NQ to HND.

"I have been in a band for 5 year and ideally it is what I want to do. Meeting Jon from the Fratellis was inspiring because he is from the same area as me and had that same dreams, and now he is a great success.  The new studios are amazing and I’ve been using Protools equipment to record and edit my own music."


John Maxwell: Access to Social Sciences

"I am enjoying the course, after it I hope to go onto University and study History and Politics. With that qualification, I hope to become a Writer."


Claire McGarvie: NQ Film, TV and Radio Production

Claire has achieved Media, English and Sociology Highers at the College. Her Media Lecturer approached her and informed Claire that the Film, TV and Radio Production course would be great for her.

"I want to be an actress and this course has given me loads of experience infront of the camera as we are always making short films. I have also gained knowledge on how to do editing so I could star and produce my own film!"

Claire wishes to go on and study at the College to achieve an HNC in Film, TV and Radio Production. With this qualification Claire will stand a better chance in being accepted at the University of her choice to study Drama Performance.


Lacine Cherif: Training Unit
thumb_lacine.jpgLacine Cherif is a young French Professional Footballer playing for Rangers Football Club. The College, Rangers Football Club and SFA have joined forces to offer the Player Welfare Programme. Young players have the chance to gain qualifications in various courses offered at Cumbernauld College.

Lacine is completing the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) and Communications 4/Literature 1. Lacine is doing so well in the Communications 4 course and achieving high results, that his lecturer believes Lancine will go on to do his Higher English.

"The courses are really good; I will always have these qualifications and can use them in any work environment. I only come to College on Wednesdays and really enjoy the fact I can still play the sport I love and study too."
