Academic and Welfare Support Services for Students:

The Student Adviser can offer support with a range of issues that may affect your ability to study at college, regardless of whether these are personal or college related.

 

The Student Adviser signposts students to the appropriate support service within the college or can make referrals to external agencies to provide individual and specialist support where required.

 

If you are experiencing difficulty with your academic studies the Student Adviser can offer guidance on how to access college services, such as Study Support, Learning Support, Careers Advice and offer information regarding college policies and procedures.

 

Support can be arranged for a variety of issues, including financial matters, housing issues, personal or family difficulties, health related issues, and many more. If an issue is affecting your studies or well-being please contact the Student Adviser to explore what support may be available to you.

 

College Events

A number of events are arranged throughout the academic year by the Student Adviser, Student Engagement Team and the Student Association. These include:

 

• Freshers' Week
• Diversity Week
• Health Events
• Higher Education Events Programme
• Money Events
• Celebrating Success Event
• Various fundraising activities

Information Stalls and Clinics:

A number of external agencies are also invited to attend the college on a regular basis to provide information to students, such as Greater Easterhouse Money Advice Project, Health Promotions Team, College Chaplaincy Team, Cumbernauld Central Credit Union, Strathclyde Police, Alcoholics Anonymous and many more.


Visit schedule 2009/10:

• Chaplaincy Team: Every Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday lunchtime
• Gemap: First Thursday of the Month (appointments via Student Adviser)
• Credit Union: Every Tuesday 10.30-11.30 (in the Student Centre)
• Alcoholics Anonymous: First Wednesday of every month 10.30am -2pm the Street
• Health Promotions: First Tuesday and Thursday of each month 12-2pm

 

Other external partners arrange visits and information stalls in the Street throughout the academic session as required.

Child and Adult Protection

The Student Adviser is also the Child and Adult Protection Coordinator and provides information and advice to staff and students on child and adult protection issues.

 

Cumbernauld College recognises it has a duty of care to protect children, young people and adults at risk from instances of abuse or harm, while attending College. The College is committed to providing all of its learner population with a safe, supportive environment within which they can prosper and be protected from harm, abuse and exploitation.

 

The College aims to ensure that any concerns about the welfare of children, young people or adults at risk in the College are dealt with sensitively, effectively and efficiently and that appropriate action is taken immediately where a child or young person is suspected of being abused.

 

All college staff have a responsibility to ensure that children, young people and adults at risk are protected. Members of the Child Protection Team have specific responsibilities with regards to child and adult protection policy and procedure.

There are a numbers of ways to contact the Student Adviser. The Student Adviser's office is located in the Student Centre on the ground floor of the Cumbernauld Campus. The Student Adviser also visits the East Dunbartonshire Campus every Friday afternoon. Appointments at the East Dunbartonshire Campus on other days can also be arranged, if required.
